Wine , Fish and Chocolate fights with Wrinkles

WINE
Drinking alcohol in moderation protects against heart disease, diabetes and age-related memory loss. Any kind of alcoholic beverage seems to provide such benefits, but red wine has been the focus of much of the research. Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that contributes to its benefits — and, according to animal studies, may activate genes that slow cellular aging.
FISH
Thirty years ago, researchers began to study why the native Inuits of Alaska were remarkably free of heart disease. The reason, scientists now think, is the extraordinary amount of fish they consume. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol build-up in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms.
CHOCOLATE
The Kuna people of the San Blas islands, off the coast of Panama, have a rate of heart disease that is nine times less than that of mainland Panamanians. The reason? The Kuna drink plenty of a beverage made with generous proportions of cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.

Heal with Haldi ( Turmeric ) !

Intestinal Disorders:

Turmeric is an antiseptic. The juice or powder, mixed in buttermilk or plain water heals intestinal problems, especially chronic diarrhoea and flatulence.

Worms:

About 20 drops of the juice of raw turmeric, mixed with a pinch of salt, taken first thing in the morning daily, is considered an effective remedy for expelling worms.

Anaemia:

Turmeric is rich in iron. A teaspoon of raw turmeric juice, mixed with honey, taken every day is beneficial.

Measles:

Turmeric roots dried in the sun, ground to a fine powder and mixed with a few drops of honey and the juice of a few bitter gourd leaves makes a concoction to cure the bothersome measles.

Asthma:

A teaspoon of turmeric powder with a glass of milk, twice or thrice daily, works wonders for the painful bronchial asthma.

Cough and Cold:

Turmeric is an effective household remedy for chronic cough and throat irritations. Mix half a teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder in 30 ml of warm milk for a quick cure. To prepare this, milk is poured on a hot ladle with turmeric in it and boiled over a slow fire. In case of a running cold, smoke from burning turmeric can be inhaled. This increases the discharge from the nose and brings quicker relief.

Hypnotherapy !

It’s a dimly lit room. Only the soft, translucent glow of a table lamp falls on an easy chair, to which I’m directed. “How long will it take?,” I ask. “An hour, perhaps more,” I’m told. “Try and make it fast,” I want to say, but don’t.
After all, I’m in for a session of hypnotherapy—and one should watch one’s words before getting hypnotised. Who knows what one might be asked to do once the hypnosis is complete? But then, I needn’t have worried. For, hypnotherapy, the practice of
using hypnosis to heal, is a perfectly safe and effective way of healing, where you are in total control, even after you are hypnotised.

CARING THE MIND

“Through hypnotherapy, the subconscious mind reaches a heightened state of alert. At the same time, the conscious mind is also active and you are perfectly aware of all that is going on,” says hypnotherapist Ashis Ganguly.
It is believed that all our experiences—of this life as well as past ones—are stored in our subconscious mind. It’s these experiences that manifest as diseases. Which is why,
suggestions given during hypnosis help in annulling negative energies stored within the subconscious.
Relationship problems rooted in past lives can also be effectively treated through hypnotherapy and other techniques that help one regress to a past life. However, more on past life regression next time. Till then, watch this space...

Mud therapy !

Naturopathy in the form of regular stomach mud baths came to Gandhiji's rescue. So, what makes naturopathy work? Naturopathy stimulates the body’s natural healing processes by ridding it of waste products and toxins. This is achieved by activating the body through baths and massages and is supplemented by a diet that suits the system.
Mud Therapy simplified
This exploits the beneficial effects that the application of thermal mud has on the organism.
This is a kind of generalised thermotherapy with a high therapeutic effectiveness in the treatment of many locomotorium disorders.
Methods
Partial mask with shower to remove mud

Partial mud mask + therapeutic bath in hydromassage pool

Partial mud mask + ozonised hydromassage in individual tub

Total mud mask + therapeutic bath in hydromassage pool

10 First aid essentials for your Pet !

Emergencies can occur anytime and the best thing to do is be prepared. Having a first aid kit ready will help to reduce anxiety if an emergency happens. Keep the kit in a readily available place and periodically check to make sure all the items are up to date and present. A small plastic box works well to hold all the necessary equipment.
If someone is taking care of your pets while you’re away, be sure to discuss about your
pets with them. Make sure they understand what you consider an emergency, how to contact you, the name and phone number of a secondary contact person you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you were unavailable, and where to take your pet in case of an emergency.

STEP 1
Get a durable, waterproof (or at least water-resistant) container that opens and closes easily yet securely. It should be large enough to hold the items mentioned below.

STEP 2
Include bandage material, such as gauze pads, cotton gauze, adhesive tape and masking tape.

STEP 3
Keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and anti-bacterial ointment or cream in the kit.

STEP 4
Include diarrhoea medication, but seek your veterinarian’s approval before use.

STEP 5
Be sure to pack a pair of scissors, plus tweezers or forceps.

STEP 6
Add a few eye droppers for dispensing liquid medication or for cleaning superficial wounds.

STEP 7
Include a syrup to induce vomiting in case your pet is poisoned.

STEP 8
Find activated charcoal at any health food store. This remedy is good for poisoning or diarrhoea and controls flatulence resulting from any stomach or intestinal upset.

STEP 9
Store blankets in the kit to keep your pet warm in extreme conditions.

STEP 10
Include the phone numbers of your pet’s regular veterinarian and of a nearby emergency veterinary hospital.

Control diabetes with Homeopathy !

Having to give up on pudding is not really the worst thing about diabetes. Diabetes can cause blindness after 15 years; approximately two per cent diabetics turn blind, while about 10 per cent develop severe visual handicap. This apart, it can also cause disability of the lower limb and escalate heart diseases and kidney failure. And though heavily underestimated, diabetes is actually the fifth leading cause of death worldwide.
And if you thought diabetes affects only the old, it would be good to let you know that at present there are 40 million Indians affected by diabetes, out of which almost 35- 40 per cent are people in the 25-35 years age group. More than 1800 cases of diabetes are diagnosed everyday. India has the largest number of diabetics in the world.
Studies show Indians carry certain genes that increase susceptibility to diabetes and lack those that provide protection. Primarily an urban disease, causative factors include family history, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and a faulty high fat and energy diet. Primarily, however, fact is that Type II or non-insulin dependent diabetes that accounts for around 90 per cent of all diabetes cases worldwide is essentially a lifestyle illness that makes homeopathy the treatment of choice. Studies and clinical evidence prove as much. In one instance, in hundred cases of diabetes treated with homoeopathy, 84 per cent cases showed normal blood sugar levels. Another group that supplemented treatment with homeopathy showed 97 per cent improvement as compared to 47 per cent without homeopathy. Homeopathy lowers the risk

factor of diabetic complications like diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy.
According to a study carried out at Glasgow Homeopathic, a double blind
randomised, placebo-controlled study for diabetic retinitis showed that 47 per cent patients given homeopathic medicine experienced improvement in central blood flow to the eye whilst a further 52 per cent patients showed improvement in blood flow to other parts of the eye.
Homeopathy controls diabetes by improving the patient’s immune system thereby helping the body absorb insulin better. It is both effective and safe, as it does not have dangerous side effects like hypoglycaemia that can lead to cardiovascular failure. Homeopathy can be used in the early stages of diabetes even as the first line of treatment. Homeopathy can also be used for those diabetics already on medicines without tampering the effect of the other medicines.

Homeopathic medicines for diabetes:

* Syzygium Jambolanum Q : Diabetes with great thirst, weakness, emaciation, profuse urination.

*Insulin 6c — indicated in diabetes with skin irritation, boils or varicose ulceration.

Know your Nails !

Nails reflect your health. If you are not healthy internally, it shows on your nails. Brittle nails are caused by the lack of water in the body. Ironically, prolonged exposure of nails to water also causes this, as do certain health conditions. Symptoms include easy peeling at the nail edge, breakage and layering. Discolouration (psoriasis) of nails can be due to anaemia, a common problem among women.
Blue nails indicate certain heart and liver diseases. White spots are formed when there is low blood supply to the nails. They could also be caused by injury and certain diseases.
Pain and swelling in and around the nails can be an indication of fungal infection. Frayed cuticles also indicate lack of water in the body.

WHAT TO EAT
Biotin is essential for nails. Have foods like soybean and whole grains that are rich in biotin. Your diet must include ample fruits and vegetables to supply necessary vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Consume adequate fluids. A glass of fresh carrot juice everyday provides necessary calcium and phosphorus for nails.

SOME DOS, SOME DON’TS
Do not use your nails as tools. No picking. No scratching. No digging. Try to keep your hands dry, though not unmoisturised. Do not bite your nails. It damages the nails and cuticles, causing deformation, uneven growth and infections too. Wear rubber gloves when you wash clothes or clean dishes. Keep your nails enamel-free and aerated once a week.

SIMPLE TIPS FOR NAIL CARE
A good time to manicure is just after a shower or washing dishes. The dirt under your nails has already been removed. Soak your hands in warm water for 10 minutes everyday, preferably before sleeping. Pat dry and moisturise well. Apply a cream or lotion whenever you wash your hands. Nails tend to dry out due to soaps and detergents. Trim your nails regularly. Change your socks daily. Try to wear cotton socks as much as possible. Do not wear tight shoes. They damage toenails. If you must wear closed shoes, clip your toenails short.

HOME REMEDIES FOR SPOTLESS NAILS
To whiten nails, use whitening toothpaste. Scrub your nails to de-stain and add sparkle. Soak your nails in water with lemon juice. The lemon acts as an astringent and lifts off the stains.

Do you need a sex counselling ?

* When you attain puberty. Go for both social and medical counselling to understand the changes in your body and the natural sexual urges and desires like masturbation and physical attraction towards the other sex .

* In case your contraceptive method fails, and also to know what the safe options are .

* Certain lifestyle choices are also important for good sexual health. To know how to be physically fit and maintain personal hygiene. Both reed-thin bodies and obese ones affect sexual health in different ways .

* Both men and women need regular internal check-ups—including tests for blood sugar, cholesterol, liver and routine urine examinations—to rule out any infections in the body .

* Pubescent girls should be taught about the period of menarche, that is the first menstrual cycle. For some, it can take a while before the cycle regularises. Parents shouldn’t panic .

* Almost one-third of sexual health problems are psychological and affect conjugal lives too. One needs to seek professional help before a problem leads to depression and affects a relationship deeply .

Seven mistakes women make in bed !

HOPING YOUR MAN IS A MIND-READER

It may be a feminine game, but it won’t get you what you want. Men just don’t think that way, and it’s disrespectful to later blame them for something they could never figure out from such indirect communication. Drop the games and be direct. Effective communication is what will hold you in good stead. If you’re embarrassed to ask what you want, use language which makes your meaning clear. Though you may find it difficult to express your emotions, he’ll need feedback to make sure he carries on enthusiastically. Losing your self in your bliss and not saying anything will make him wonder if you’re asleep, dead or uninterested, at which point he is most likely to stop.

RESENTING HIM WHEN HE DOESN’T GET IT RIGHT

If you want more foreplay, then you need to say so. If he charges straight into your erogenous zones after a few minutes’ of petting and kissing, then you need to educate him about what you want. Men are much more quickly aroused than women on the whole, and they simply need slowing down. As a woman you’re likely to be more creative than a man, so maybe you can apply your creative skills to sex, and improve it for both of you!

NOT REALISING THAT ‘WOMEN COME FIRST’!

Well, maybe not in everything, but it’s not a bad rule to follow during sex. Men lose interest after a while: like it or not, that’s how they are biologically built (in fact they are programmed to sleep after sex) and unless they’re especially sensitive, they won’t be much interested in your satisfaction. The best way to deal with this is to have extended foreplay. This way he’ll be very turned on and he will enjoy the act.

BEING CRITICAL OF YOUR BODY

It’s hard for women to believe, but it’s true. In general, men are much less critical of your body than you are. When you start hiding it during sex, or refusing to enjoy certain sexual positions because you fear what he might think of your body, he’s likely to get very disenchanted, very quickly. If you need reassurance that your body is OK, remember rule number 1: ask him for it. Say, for example, “Do you find me attractive?”

NOT BEING ASSERTIVE DURING SEX

It’s an old, old stereotype: men lead, women follow. Well, that certainly shouldn’t be true all the time in sex. Even if you like him to be masculine and dominant during sex, or even if you like to feel as if you’re being “taken” sometimes, it’s just as nice for him to see your assertive side. Take the lead from time to time.

BEING CRITICAL OF HIS PERFORMANCE

Nothing but nothing will turn a man off faster than being critical. Instead, find a way of gently expressing your feelings.

BEING TOO INSECURE

You want the lights off, you have to be under the covers and you never want to take off your shirt. Yeah, that sounds like some really exciting sex. If he’s with you, it’s because he likes you. So it’s time you got over your insecurities and gave in to your flaws. You can do so with baby steps by lighting candles. You are all set, go with the flow

Wide Open Ear !

From mushy songs to parental advice to soporific college lectures, your ears help you hear all these. Can you imagine life with ears that didn’t hear properly? You don’t want to, right? So, take good care of your ears!
COMMON EAR PROBLEMS

Infections: Fungal, bacterial or viral; may lead to watery or pus-filled discharge. Hearing impairment: Occurs when sound is not conducted properly into the eardrum; could be due to fluid, pus or blood in the middle ear.
DOS AND DON’TS
• Be careful when you bathe. Don’t let
water, shampoo or soap get inside your
ear as it can lead to painful infections.
• Never, ever clean your ear with
matchsticks, pens or any other sharp objects. Always use a soft-tipped cotton bud.
• In fact, you don't need to use ear buds all the time. Ears have a self-cleaning mechanism. Gently wipe them with a towel if water has gone in.
• Try to avoid loud and noisy places such as discotheques.

Amazing : Doctors reconstruct anus of two-day-old baby !

In a rare surgery, doctors in New Delhi have successfully reconstructed the anus of a two-day-old baby girl who was born without the organ.

In one of the first procedures of its kind in India, the baby from a slum cluster in nearby Gurgaon was given a new lease of life by doctors at the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) last week after private nursing homes turned her away.

'Though the baby was not underweight, she was lacking the vital organ. We examined and operated upon her successfully at one stretch,' said Yogesh Sarin, head of department, paediatrics surgery.

'As the child was only two days old, we had to be extra careful. The pelvic muscle was divided in the middle and the rectum was mobilised. We made the hole at the required place and the child is now defecating through the reconstructed organ,' Sarin told IANS.

A team of five doctors led by Sarin conducted the surgery, medically known as posterior sagittal anorectoplasty, within an hour.

'We are closely monitoring her development and will hopefully discharge her by the weekend,' Sarin explained.

An added complication was the baby developing meningitis as she was delivered at home - over 50 percent of childbirths in India happen at home, the doctor said.

'The unhygienic surroundings led to her getting meningitis. But we have given her medicine and she is stable now.'

Registration application filed for Darjeeling Tea !

The Tea Board of India filed an application at Brussels on Monday to register Darjeeling as a Geographical Indication (GI) in the European Union (EU).
GI is a sign used on products, which have a specific geographical origin. The use of a GI often acts as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, or enjoys a certain reputation, due to its geographical origin.
Darjeeling was the first GI to be registered in India and is the first application for registration of a tea in Europe.
The distinctive characteristics of Darjeeling tea are due to both its geographic origin and the way in which the tea is processed in Darjeeling.
A major portion of the annual production of Darjeeling tea is exported, the key markets being Japan, Russia, the US and the EU countries.
India is one of the world's largest producers of tea, with a total production of over 900 million kg in 2006. India supplies about 30 percent of the world's tea.

Mobile Hospital for rural people of Assam.India !

A mobile hospital has brought hope at the doorstep for Titaram Payeng, a middle-aged farmer unable to work for the last three months because of a severe stomach ailment, and many like him having no access to proper healthcare.

Payeng's wife and two children suffered with him in their isolated village near Jonai, about 550 km from Assam's main city of Guwahati, as he could not earn a penny due to his sudden illness.

Payeng could not afford to visit the district hospital in Dhemaji and there were no doctors or medicines at the local health centre, forcing him to get medication from a local quack.

But life is looking up for Payeng now with Dhemaji district getting a state-of-the-art hospital-on-wheels - along with seven other districts in Assam.

The mobile hospital sits on two different buses equipped with sophisticated laboratory and diagnostic facilities, including X-ray machines, ECG, ultrasound, and an operation table.

Two doctors, two nurses, a radiologist and a pharmacist would be accompanying the mobile hospital in a separate vehicle.

'The mobile medical units would have two buses and a small vehicle aimed at reaching the doorsteps of people in rural areas,' Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told IANS.

The mobile units would visit isolated areas and villages on appointed days where patients could avail themselves of the services of the expert team of doctors.

Eight such mobile hospital units have been launched in as many districts in Assam - all the 19 districts would be covered by the scheme under the National Rural Health Mission by March next year.

Assam has become the first state under the Mission to introduce the hospital-on-wheels concept.

'People like us are surely to be benefited by such healthcare facilities,' Payeng said.

There are similar plans for people living in an estimated 2,500 sandbars located along the Brahmaputra river by March 2008.
