The rain has stopped, but not the misery. Lakhs of Kolkatans remained marooned on Tuesday, desperately waiting for chira, gur and water ferried by boat. Even in posh areas, residents were seen scrambling for relief supplies.
The mayor blamed the silted channels of Kestopur Canal, Bagjola Canal, Town Head-Cut Canal and Churial Canal for the waterlogging. Backflow from canals damaged pumps at Ultadanga and Dhapa Lock. “Water from Ultadanga, Manicktala, EM Bypass and Behala could not recede because of these heavily silted outfall canals. These canals need immediate dredging,” Mr.Bikash Bhattacharya said.
It is the duty of the Mayor to take chages of this situation and he should not pass by the responsibilities.
May be a long long waiting for Kokatans !!
