A surrogate mother is a woman who carries a fetus for someone else, who are not able to give birth physically. The surrogate mother has to surrender the surrogate baby to the couple who have hired her.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process by which egg cells are fertilised by sperm outside the body: in vitro. The egg is fertilized in a test tube, and then implanted into the surrogate mother. In this case, the surrogate mother acts almost like an incubator, carrying the child to term for a woman who is unable to do so. Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao have become parents to a baby boy born to a surrogate mother through IVF.
